From Bark Bay we continued north to Onetahui beach where we ditched the kayaks and picked up walking boots to walk on to Awaroa hut. On the way we stopped at Awaroa Lodge; a restaurant and hotel perched on the coast, only accessible by boat, helicopter or on foot. We treated ourselves to an amazing meal with fine wines and pavlovas. This is my kind of adventure!!! The lodge grows all it's own organic veges with the staff all living on site because of the inaccessibility. It started off as a little tin roof lean-too serving coffees and cakes back in the late 80's and has built up into this dead swanky place, but still more than welcoming to backpackers doing the trail.
